Since Huckabee launched “Learn Our History” in May of 2011, the series has become a huge hit with the homeschool community given the breadth of content, historical accuracy and fun animation. Developed under the direction of leading historians and educators, the series features a group of friends who go back in time to relive the most influential stories of our nation. Children get to go along for the ride to see it all, from the earliest days of our nation to the latest events that continue to transform America today.

Governor Huckabee is also currently the of host of the number one rated weekend hit “HUCKABEE” on the Fox News Channel, and is heard three times daily across the nation on the “Huckabee Report” syndicated on almost 600 stations by the Citadel Media Network, where it has been the fastest growing new program on the Citadel Media Network in recent years. He is also the author of 9 books, the most recent being “A Simple Government.”

After his campaign for the Republican nomination for President in 2008, in which he finished second to John McCain, he formed HuckPac to assist Conservative Republicans running for office nationwide and has amassed a volunteer team with thousands of activists in all 50 states.

From 1996-2007, Huckabee served as the 44th Governor of Arkansas and was recognized nationally for his leadership, having been honored by several renowned publications and organizations for his numerous accomplishments. In 1997, Huckabee became the first governor ever to appoint a homeschooling parent to the State Board of Education with his appointment of JoNell Caldwell.

Governing Magazine named Huckabee as one of its ‘Public Officials of the Year’ for 2005, Time Magazine honored him as one of the five best governors in America, and later in the same year, Huckabee received the American Association of Retired Person’s Impact Award. In 2007, he was presented with the Music for Life Award by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), for his commitment to music education. He served as the Chairman of the prestigious National Governors Association as well as the Education Commission of the States and the Interstate Oil and Gas Commission.

Huckabee became governor in July 1996 when his predecessor resigned. He was one of the youngest governors in the country at the time. Huckabee was elected to a full four-year term as governor in 1998, attracting the largest percentage of the vote ever received by a Republican gubernatorial nominee in Arkansas, and was re-elected to another four-year term in November 2002.

Huckabee first was elected lieutenant governor in a 1993 special election and was elected to a full four-year term in 1994. He was only the fourth Republican to be elected to statewide office since Reconstruction.

After an early career in broadcasting and advertising, he spent 12 years as a pastor and denominational leader. He became the youngest president ever of the Arkansas Southern Baptist State Convention, the largest denomination in Arkansas. Huckabee led rapidly growing congregations in Pine Bluff and Texarkana. He said those experiences gave him a deep sense of the problems faced by individuals and families.

Huckabee has a deep passion for American History—a passion that led to his involvement in the development of the “Learn Our History” DVD video series for children. He has been quoted as saying,

History is to a culture what memory is to an individual. Without some sense of who we were, we’re incapable of knowing who we are and who we will become.

He is also an avid musician and is bass player in his rock-n-roll band, Capitol Offense, which has opened for artists such as Willie Nelson and the Charlie Daniels Band, and has played the House of Blues in New Orleans, the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, CO and for two presidential inauguration balls and at two Republican National Conventions. He is featured each week in the musical segment of his Fox show with the Fox house band, “The Little Rockers.”

His hobbies include hunting, fishing, running, and music. He was named one of the 25 most influential people for conservation by Outdoor Life magazine, and has was named as Man of the Year by the American Sportfishing Association in 1997.

The former governor and his wife, Janet, live in Florida and still spend part of their time in Arkansas. They have three grown children: John Mark, David and Sarah and one grandson, Chandler.

With 17 years of homeschooling three children, 17 years of ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ, and a sense of God’s calling on her life, Linda brings enthusiasm, warmth, and inspiration to the subject of world history. She feels the Lord gave her first the title and the vision of the series, The Mystery of History, and then the drive and passion to write it. The title reveals her heart, which is that the “mystery” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ would be made known, better understood, and more deeply appreciated through the knowledge of God’s hand in world history.

He is the assistant director of the American Council for Accredited Certification, a non-profit professional certifying body.

Andrew’s wife, Missy, received her BA in English Literature and Christian Studies from Hillsdale College in 1991. She and Adam have six children, ages nine to eighteen. Now in her fourteenth year of home schooling, Missy’s class has grown to include all six kids, as well as several students from neighboring families who participate in a local home school cooperative. The family attends Christ Reformed Church in Colville, where Adam does most of the preaching.

Both Adam and Missy have long felt a calling to serve the home schooling community, and have constantly been on the lookout for ways to make high quality education accessible to committed parents and teachers. Inveterate bookworms, they have spent the past twelve years making booklists of great literature for students of all ages, and trying to find a literature curriculum that is both accessible and substantial. Teaching the Classics is the result of their conviction that the best curriculum is one that involves both teacher and student in a discussion of great ideas.

Adam and Missy founded the Center for Literary Education in 2003 to help parents and teachers provide high quality instruction in the important disciplines of the mind.

Many of these disciplines have been lacking in American education for decades, and a return to greatness in the next generation requires that we reclaim them. The Center for Literary Education exists to help parents and teachers give their students facility with ideas, making it possible for them to rise to positions of influence and authority in their society.

Adam and Missy believe that influence and leadership opportunities will eventually go to those who know how to handle ideas, and that education, if is to be rightly so called, must deal with ideas first and foremost.

Since the beginning of human civilization, men of influence — leaders — have always concerned themselves with ideas; they have been familiar with the eternal questions, familiar with the usual answers, conversant with the long running debates. The record of their intellectual journey remains for us to contemplate, written down in the literature of the western world. The ability to read and understand this literature is a necessary and crucial part of a sound education.

In the American literature of last 150 years we find one of the most chilling portraits of the crisis of modernity ever recorded. Some of the greatest writers of this period, from Stephen Crane and Jack London to F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, provide in their works a window into the plight of the modern soul. Having denied the relevance, authority and very existence of God, many such modern authors floundered in their search for someone to replace Him. Their works thus powerfully demonstrate the consequence of such a denial: the destruction of certainty in all its forms.

To a great extent, we 21st century Americans live in a world bequeathed to us by the thinkers of our recent past — a world devoid of certainty. We must look to a new generation of leaders to help us restore the philosophical and spiritual foundations of our culture. Leaders of this new generation will depend upon a sound Literary Education, the ability to interact with the arguments of history’s most thoughtful men.

The Center for Literary Education strives to help produce such leaders by equipping parents and teachers to understand, analyze and interpret great literature, so that they can pass these critical skills on to their students. To this end, it provides seminars and curriculum materials designed to make the basic techniques of literary analysis clear and accessible to teachers and students alike.

Marcia graduated in 1976 from Kent School, a highly acclaimed classics-based prep school; she received her degree in history from Dartmouth College in 1979. A homeschooling mom since her first child began kindergarten, Marcia found herself ready to quit after 10 years. She couldn’t imagine a way to educate all of her children in every subject.

After a season of tears and prayer, though, and drawing on her own rigorous high school experience and her Ivy League degree in history, she developed a method that integrated the humanities and social sciences into a four-year survey of world history. At first, she used her idea only with her own children. But after graduating her two oldest sons, she offered to lead neighboring homeschooling families through the same four-year cycle. In serving them, she developed a new curriculum that came to be called Tapestry of Grace™.

Today, thousands of families in America and overseas benefit from Marcia’s 10-year labor of love. Tapestry of Grace™ has won many awards, and has brought both joy and quality education to many homes. In Korea, Tapestry has become the model for a new curriculum that the leaders of a 20,000 member church are spearheading. In addition to writing homeschool materials, Marcia enjoys speaking on a variety of topics that encourage and enlighten fellow homeschoolers. Her vision is to mentor homeschool moms in raising up a generation of Christian youth equipped with a deep, apologetics-oriented understanding of the Great Conversation and the ability to contribute to it.

Before he was a lawyer, Scott was a homeschool activist—as the first president of Christian Home Educators of New Hampshire, Scott battled the New Hampshire rules revision subcommittee to a standstill in their effort to triple the regulations on homeschoolers. Scott went straight from Harvard to Home School Legal Defense Association, where he was a staff attorney for 14 years.

Scott has written and spoken extensively on subjects ranging from parental rights to the privacy of the home, but his central concern has always been for the homeschool family—especially the homeschool dad. “The Christian homeschooling father is uniquely positioned to truly gain the desires of his heart: a loving wife, a happy home, wise sons, and delightful daughters,” says Scott. “There are treasures hidden in his home—all he needs to know is where to dig!”

In October 2006, Scott left his full-time position at HSLDA to serve homeschooling families—especially fathers and teenagers—in new ways. He realized that many fathers want to be more involved in their homeschools but don’t know how, so he created the “Pop Quiz” (a 32-CD audio tour of the history of the world) to enable fathers to lead their families through the Tapestry of Grace™ curriculum. Scott wrote the “Pageant of Philosophy” to help Christian teens prepare to face competing worldviews by following the adventures of “Simplicio” as he meets all the great thinkers of history—from Moses to Marx to the latest thinkers.
